Beginning next month, Russia will require manufacturers to register all food products derived from genetically modified sources, according to the U.S. embassy m Moscow. The regulation, which goes into effect July 1, applies to all foodstuffs that are imported, produced locally or sold through retail channels. Food products that are already registered in Russia will be required to re-certify under the new procedures when current certification expires. Initial registrations are valid for three years, but renewals may be issued for five years, according to the embassy. The regulation does not apply to animal feeds.
