PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The local JORDAN PHOSPHATE MINES CO. (JPMC) is currently considered to be the world's sixth largest producer of phosphate rock. Production, for that matter, from its Eshidiya mine started in 1988 and is expected to be gradually increased to reach 7.5 million metric tons per annum by some time during the year 2000. The upgrade in question is intended to replace the existing mines at El-Hassa and El-Abiad. JPMC has estimated that the Eshidiya mining area has phosphate bearing deposits of some 1.5 billion metric tons.
