We Romanticists have not been particularly good at thinking about the formal aspects of Romantic poetry. There may be two principal reasons for this failing. First, we, along with our critical colleagues generally today, perhaps inherit bruises from the New Criticism's fall. Confronted with issues about how or whether the poetic urn is well wrought, some of us get uneasy or suspicious.
