There's a scenic summer adventure to please every visitor at the 40,000-acre Acadia National Park - hiking, canoeing, rock-climbing and just loafing by the sea.
Set amid the magnificent coastal hills and forests of northern Maine, the park includes 38,000-acre Mount Desert Island, tiny Isle Au Haut Island and 2,000-acre Schoodic Peninsula. In 1911, Acadia became the first national park east of the Mississippi - long after Hudson River painters Frederick Church and Thomas Coles popularized Maine seascapes in the 1840s.
