Jun. 24 -- FORT WORTH, Texas -- Leaders of the pilots union at American Airlines blasted U.S. District Judge Joe Kendall yesterday, accusing him of being biased and hostile in his handling of the case that stemmed from the union's February sickout.
The unusual criticism of a federal judge was the union's first public challenge of Kendall. In April, the Dallas judge ordered the union and its leaders to pay $45.5 million in damages to American because the union failed to heed his order to end the sickout.
