In the wake of inspections made in different EU Member States, the EU Court of Auditors has published a special report on aid on the use of skimmed milk and skimmed milk powder as animal feed. The aid - Euro 386 million in 1997 - is granted as part of marketing measures introduced owing to overproduction in the dairy sector. The Court has shown that in spite of the 1984 milk quota, the EU has to pay to export or market 63% of Community milk powder production.
