What exactly does a conductor do?
Harry Ellis Dickson, 90, associate conductor laureate of the Boston Pops, music director of the Boston Classical Orchestra and a violinist and conductor for nearly all his life, has been pondering that question lately.
His musings on the subject coincide with an important conducting landmark - the Arthur Fiedler Memorial concert Tuesday night at the Hatch Shell.
