Jul. 1 -- A new fountain planned for downtown Colorado Springs' Acacia Park is likely to make quite a splash.
Imagine a 36-foot-diameter rubberized play area with "pop jets," the synchronized miniature geysers that shoot water up from the ground. At the center of it, a mosaic tile base topped by a hemisphere.
OK, pretty sedate so far.
But at various times of the day, imagine the whole thing coming to life: the sphere rising and a small creature under it appearing, spinning around to shoot water.
And then the sphere rises even higher -- about 15 feet up -- to reveal an affable older ...
