Drinking water quality in England and Wales is better than ever, Environment Minister Michael Meacher announced today.

The Drinking Water Inspectorate's ninth Annual Report, shows that of the 2.8 million drinking water tests carried out in 1998, 99.78 per cent met national and EC standards.
