A short-line railroad company headquartered in Howell is planning a $50 million, 467-acre rail yard on a 1,000-acre parcel in Milan Township to distribute new cars.
The Ann Arbor Acquisition Corp., which operates the 50-mile Ann Arbor Railroad, is talking with General Motors Corp. about leasing most or all of the yard. The automaker is looking for a distribution center to ship new cars, said Alan Adler, manager of media relations for GM.
``It's not a done deal, but we're negotiating with Ann Arbor Railroad about being a tenant,'' Adler said. He wouldn't reveal which line of cars or how many would be handled at the proposed yard.
