Multicultural education is an all encompassing approach to educational policy which affects administrative processes, faculty recruitment, student retention, pedagogy, evaluation, as well as curriculum design. According to Banks (1993), multicultural education is a transformational reform designed to "change the total educational environment so that diverse racial and ethnic groups, both gender groups, exceptional students, and students from each social-class group will experience equal educational opportunities in schools and universities" (p. 359).
