The Boeing [BA] AH-64 Apache attack helicopters deployed as part of Task Force Hawk during Operation Allied Force would have been used in combat operations had the campaign lasted a few days more, an Army official told Defense Daily yesterday.
"I think you would have seen the Apaches committed," said Col. Michael Hackerson, the deputy director for planning in the Army's office of the deputy chief of staff for operations and planning.
He said that the Apaches would have been committed for two reasons: one, Serbian air defenses had assumed that the Apache threat had passed; and two, Serbian units were massing to fight the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
