NEW YORK - Given the wide range of hair care products classified by manufacturers as "professional" or "salon quality," it is clear that the definition of such merchandise is broadly interpreted. Still, suppliers and retailers agree, the positioning of the category often convinces shoppers to step up to higher-price products.
"Pro hair care is a term that gets thrown around a lot because it encourages consumers to make the connection between a salon and quality hair care products," says Dinah Beveridge, show and promotions manager at Jerome Russell Cosmetics, which markets a wide range of items that add glitter or temporary color to hair.
