As an artistic phenomenon, the creation of Iznik ceramics came and went like a shooting star, illuminating the world only briefly. The high point of their production was the century, from around 1470 to 1580, after which production declined visibly in brilliance. But the gardens of paradise depicted on these pottery vessels and tiles have the kind of enduring appeal that crosses centuries and cultures.
