Jul. 28 -- TOPEKA, Kan. -- A scourge of much of the southern United States -- imported fire ants -- has been found in Kansas, but officials said Tuesday they believe they have contained the problem.
Kansas Department of Agriculture officials confirmed finding a nest of fire ants two weeks ago at a plant nursery in Pittsburg.
The site has been treated and the surrounding area inspected several times and no additional fire ants have been found, they said.
