The current methods of military logistics support are inefficient and require extensive modernization to keep pace with 21st century warfighting, Pentagon acquisition chief Jacques Gansler said recently.
But reforming the military's support system has drawn criticism from some who worry that the change could not only threaten uniformed and civilian jobs, but may put warfighters at risk if the so-called "just in time" concept is adopted (Defense Daily, May 11).
Just in time delivery refers to getting resources to a battlefield when needed rather than building large stockpiles.
