For good reason, the NAACP has called for a boycott of South Carolina until the state stops flying the Confederate battle flag.
In quick response, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the National Urban League and the African Methodist Episcopal Church called off conventions in South Carolina.
Other groups should also support the NAACP's challenge.
The Confederate battle flag was raised over the South Carolina statehouse in the early 1960s by a legislature that wanted to protest desegregation.
I cannot imagine why some South Carolinians are so recalcitrant. Perhaps it is because they have been able to keep the flag flying ...
