Jul. 16 -- TELEWEST IS HIT BY FRENCH CWC MOVE: The prospect of an auction for Cable & Wireless Communications sent shares in Telewest, which has been in takeover talks with CWC since April, plunging as France Telecom announced $1 billion (UKpound 637 million) of support for rival bidder NTL.
Telewest, still working out the details of its offer, was punished by a fall of 161/4 pence to 303 pence as investors reassessed its chances. C&W was up 5 pence at 725 pence.
