PIERRE SCHAEFFER
Pierre Schaeffer the pioneer of ``musique concrete'' was born in Nancy, France, on this day in 1910.
Originally a science student, Schaeffer became a radio engineer... then began to make music from tape recordings.
Schaeffer's contribution to classical music thinking was his entire series of ``Counterpoint'' compositions...in which a soloist is backed up by recordings of himself. John Adams used recordings in his composition ``Christian Zeal and Activity.''
