CHINA is to electrify its 950km line between Harbin and Dalian to enable 200km/h passenger trains to be introduced on the route by the end of 2001. The Ministry of Railways, in partnership with China National Machinery Import and Export Company (CTMC), has awarded a DM 350 million ($US 189.3 million) contract to Adtranz and Siemens to install the complete electrification system.
The project is being financed through credit provided by the German bank, MW. It will involve electrifying 2800km of track, building 17 power supply substations, and supplying a control and communication system.
