THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE for Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) says effective training and personal protective equipment are needed at fish hatcheries to protect workers from exposures to formaldehyde. Formalin, which has been used in fish production since 1909, is composed of formaldehyde, methanol and "inert ingredients," according to a report by the institute.
