Aug. 20 -- Gov. Jim Hodges strengthened his alliance with Grand Strand tourism leaders Thursday, building on his December trip to the area as governor-elect when he said tourism in the state's No. 1 industry.
Myrtle Beach's tourism industry is the cat that can catch Orlando's mouse, Hodges said during a joint meeting of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association at the Palace Theater.
Hodges offered broad-brush solutions to tourism-related problems in the area, including transportation and the labor shortage.
