WASHINGTON_ When you map all the different kinds of disaster that strike the United States year by year, it's obvious: You can run, but you can't hide.
Powerful Hurricane Bret slammed into Texas Sunday, kicking off what experts believe will be a busy peak hurricane season this year. A massive earthquake devastated Turkey last week, and a smaller one shook California. A tornado surprised Salt Lake City earlier this month. And only Friday, President Clinton declared parts of Nebraska a disaster area in the wake of severe flooding.
