Aug. 20 -- Hemorrhoid sufferers may find relief, thanks to a Broomfield biotech company.
The 3-year-old Univera Pharmaceuticals Inc. is starting human clinical trials of a pill that could cure a case of hemorrhoids. The medicine is made of Univera's patented extract of prickly ash bark. It comes from a small tree growing in the southern and northern areas of the United States.
The hemorrhoid treatment, UP828, will probably be classified as a dietary supplement. U.S. laws don't require supplements to be tested like prescription medicine.
