Ghana in West Africa is generally divided into two sectors along geographic and cultural lines. Northern Ghana consists of three of the ten political regions of the modern state. Southern Ghana makes up the remaining seven regions.(1) Harsh climatic and economic conditions in the North have led to the influx of northerners into southern Ghana in search of job opportunities. The Islam Committee of the Christian Council of Ghana drew attention to this development in 1975.
