(CW HENDERSON PUBLISHER www.newsfile.com) -- Fifteen cases of bowel obstruction due to intussusception have occurred among the 1.5 million U.S. infants given the new rotavirus vaccine, and another eight cases are suspected.
This rate is not significantly higher than the background incidence of intussusception. But 13 of the 15 cases reported to the U.S. Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) occurred within one week of vaccination.
