Good news. The Portable Power Equipment Manufacturers Association (PPEMA) recently delivered the following good news with its 1998 US shipment results and 1999 outlook for handheld, gasoline-powered equipment:

* Chain saws: During 1998, industry shipments of gasoline-powered chain saws increased 1.4% to 2,119,750 units. It is estimated that industry shipments for 1999 will increase 1-2%.
* Trimmers and brushcutters: During 1998, industry shipments of gasoline-powered trimmers and brushcutters increased by 8.7% to 4,004,310 units. It is estimated that industry shipments for 1999 will increase 4%.
* Handheld blowers: During 1998, ...
