The Chilean wood & wood products exports amounted to US$917.5mil in the 1st semester of 1999, up from US$864.3mil in the same period of 1998, informed the Conaf national industry association. The increase on the exports to Asia and the US contributed for the good result. The main market was the US, which imported US$214.9mil over the 1st semester (15.8% increase), followed by Japan with US$126.6mil (4.5% decrease), China with US$65.9mil, South Korea with US$52.4mil, Belgium with US$51.9mil and Argentina with US$48.9mil. Chile's cellulose exports amounted to US$363,3mil (39.5% of the total), which represented a 3% decrease in comparison with the 1st semester of 1998. ...
