Lucia Cleveland built her spice empire on unique spices such as these. Started with $10,000 almost 20 years ago, the San Luis Obispo-based Spice Hunter expects to net $20 million this year.
That focus on quality attracted the attention of a Virginia spice and extract outfit, C.F. Sauer Co., who bought Spice Hunter Monday. Both companies declined to reveal the terms of the sale, but said no layoffs would occur.
