When Gov. Paul Cellucci signed the new law to raise the minimum wage to $6.75 an hour in Massachusetts, he showed that either he has no understanding of or respect for how our market economy works. Either that or he just doesn't care who this law will hurt, because he thinks it will help his image as a moderate Republican in Massachusetts.
The large majority of economists don't believe that increasing the minimum wage helps workers. Many believe it actually hurts them. A study by the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge found that increasing the minimum wage also increases the number of families below the poverty line.
