NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 1, 1999--

The New York Times announced today that it will raise the suggested newsstand price of its weekday newspaper (Monday-Saturday) from 60 cents to 75 cents within the greater New York metropolitan area effective Monday, September 13. There will be no change in the price of the Sunday newspaper or in the suggested newsstand price for the daily Northeast and National editions, which is $1.00. The price of home delivery of The Times when purchased through The New York Times's direct home delivery service also will not be affected.
