March 23 of this year marked the 10th anniversary of the announcement of cold fusion by Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann at the Univ. of Utah. These worthy chemists are now performing their alchemy in southern France, having become fugitives from the established scientific community for their effrontery to call into doubt some long-cherished beliefs in nuclear physics.
What made this even more impertinent was the rather sloppy follow-up by mainstream investigators to replicate the work of Pons and Fleischmann; and, when they couldn't or wouldn't duplicate the findings of these reputable gentlemen, their efforts were relegated to the scientific trash heap. Even ...
