Raisin bran is the understated member of a breakfast club that is forever clamoring to be more dazzling, crunchier and tastier. The sensible, healthy combination of raisins and bran flakes doesn't need much hype to sell itself.
Kellogg's introduced its Raisin Bran in 1942 and has dominated the market ever since. There is now plenty of competition, especially because bran is recognized as a heart-healthy food. Several cereal companies make their own versions of raisin bran (a name that is not trademarked). Almost any raisin bran makes a high-fiber, low-fat breakfast; the main difference among brands is taste and price.
