The avalanche of new companies and technologies in 1981 outpaced any year before or since.
While researching the TRS-80 and the VIC-20, one seminal year kept cropping up: 1981. It just might be the most important year in desktop- computing history. This single year makes today's pace of change look slow. It's almost as if there was some sort of cosmic confluence in 1981. Let's review.
