EC to harmonize national guidelines on supplements' uses, safety and purity.
MAJOR CHANGES may soon be made to European Union regulations governing dietary supplements and herbal products. These could radically alter Western Europe's burgeoning nutraceuticals market.
Ingredients currently sold as food supplements may be reclassified as medicines. At the same time, herbal medicines, currently exempt from licensing regulations in several EU countries, could be brought under the full force of medical legislation.
