Many local governments are revitalizing municipal golf courses and saving money through privatization, according to a recent study by the Reason Public Policy Institute.
During the past eight years, the number of cities with privatized golf courses increased by two-thirds, the report says. Since municipal golf courses compete with other city departments for scarce government funding, local leaders often seek private management of golf courses to upgrade course conditions, save costs, increase revenues, or improve community relations.
