A significant number of Americans so cherish their pets, they'll change their lives for them, according to a just-released national survey.

The independent study commissioned by PETsMART, Inc. (Nasdaq:PETM) found that 68% of Americans consider pets members of the family and make life choices to accommodate them. From allowing their pets to sleep with them (79%), to taking a day off work to be with a sick pet (31%) and taking "pet-friendly" vacations (23%), the nation's pet owners go beyond the call of duty to accommodate the needs and desires of their pets.
