Sep. 14 -- NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Valley Authority, which once boasted that it would become "America's power company" if it was free to sell electricity nationwide, pledged Monday to keep its focus and generation within the Tennessee Valley.
TVA officials told a Congressional panel that the federal utility does not plan to build power plants outside of its 7-state region even after the electricity industry is deregulated nationwide.
