NAHA, Japan - President Clinton's visit to Okinawa next year means another U.S. military base on this island, some people say.
Okinawa residents have been divided since the Japanese government chose Nago, a northern Okinawa city with a population of 55,500, as venue for the year 2000 Group of Eight (G-8) summit meeting.
While the decision pleased some Okinwans, especially those in urban areas like Naha, the capital, residents of Nago see it as another carrot-stick combination.
