Article: Sandwich boy fights leukemia.

Pale and shaking with emotion, the father of an 11-year-old boy dying of leukemia pleaded with a state hearing officer yesterday to overturn the state's decision not to pay for the boy's last hope for treatment.

"There's still a chance David can be cured," William Stewart of Sandwich said after the two-hour hearing. "The fight's not over but they're telling me it's over."

The state's Medicaid review board could decide as early as today whether to overturn its earlier decision refusing to pay costs associated with an experimental cancer-fighting therapy available to David.
