NEW YORK- Aside from gaining congressional approval to broadcast local station signals into local markets this fall, the satellite TV industry is facing other dicey legislative issues that include gaining Congress' support to boost rural service, renewing program access laws that expire in 2002 and reviewing the 1996 Telecommunications Act.
Those views were offered by Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) President Chuck Hewitt in his stateof-the-industry address before more than 200 attendees at the SkyForum satellite TV conference here Thursday. The SBCA is the sponsor of the twice-annual event.
