A pro-active Namibia Airports Company, still in its first year of life, is to invest $US 8 million in a major upgrade programme at the country's second city airport, Walvis Bay, reports Doug Birch.

Located on Namibia's Atlantic coastline, Walvis Bay is the country's industrial epicentre and its main seaport, through which passes much of Namibia's raw and processed mineral exports. The country has an incalculable reserve of uranium deposits and vast supplies of copper, zinc, lead, tin, diamonds and vanadium.
