CEO of International Paper Assures Franklin, Va., That Mill Will Stay.

Sep. 22 -- FRANKLIN, Va. -- The president and chief executive officer of International Paper Co. assured jittery city residents yesterday that the company was hurrying to reopen a severely flooded paper mill that is Franklin's single largest employer.

John Dillon's remarks at a town meeting were balm for Franklin, which has been buzzing with rumors that New York-based International Paper would simply cut its losses and close the mill. The company acquired the mill only this year in a merger with the longtime owner, Union Camp Corp.
