Sep. 25 -- Tulare County officials have received a $1 million federal grant to create and use technology to combat agricultural theft.
Agricultural leaders say the problem involves local, national and international crime rings. Agricultural theft includes chemicals, livestock, tractors, computers, even sprinkler heads and field toilets, and costs San Joaquin Valley farmers tens of millions of dollars annually.
Law enforcement agencies in the San Joaquin Valley have been working with state funding, and the new grant marks the first time federal dollars have been funneled into the fight.
