Sep. 25 -- BLACKFOOT, Idaho -- As one of the West's largest milling operations comes up to speed in Blackfoot, Idaho's wheat growers can expect a closer market, lower transportation costs and, in the end, better prices.
Fisher Mills, west of Blackfoot, will have a hefty appetite for locally grown wheat.
At capacity, the mill will use 37,000 bushels of wheat a day. And 80 percent will come from Idaho farmers, said Mike Bassett, the mill's systems plant manager.
Although the milling operation began in Blackfoot in January, Fisher Mills ran several test runs before flour started coming out of the plant ...
