Sep. 27 -- Sometimes a successful retail concept can't be exported, even a few miles away.
After two tries two decades apart, that's the conclusion Tom Thumb has made about its Simon David specialty supermarket.
On Wednesday, the Simon David in the Lincoln Park shopping strip across from NorthPark Center will shed the upscale name. The 1-year-old location will be called Tom Thumb Flagship, a tagline borrowed from Randalls Food Markets Inc. in Houston.
