Sep. 26 -- FREEPORT, Bahamas -- The days when Sammy Davis Jr. and his Rat Pack cronies frequented Freeport's hotels and casinos are long gone, but Grand Bahama Island is once again poised to become a first-class tourism destination and international crossroads.

The late Wallace Groves would have smiled. More than 40 years after the American financier and lawyer dreamed of creating the ultimate planned community, his vision of Freeport/Lucaya as a tourist mecca, international trading port and manufacturing center is finally coming to fruition.
