Oct. 5 -- Anticipating a settlement between American Home Products Corp. and millions of diet-pill users, a state judge yesterday dismissed the jury in a class-action lawsuit that's to decide whether the drug maker should pay for expensive medical tests.
In explaining the move, Superior Court Judge Marina Corodemus said that talks between American Home and lawyers for diet-pill users were "very serious." But she also cautioned that the trial would resume Oct. 12 if a deal isn't reached this week.
