Two Marylanders held as prisoners by Japan during World War II are among 11 named plaintiffs in a huge class-action lawsuit that charges Japanese companies with starving, beating, and forcing them to perform slave labor in factories, mines and shipyards nearly 60 years ago. Paul Reuter, 79, of Oxon Hill, and Herbert Zincke, 80, of Silver Spring are decorated veterans. They say they suffered permanent disability at the hands of their Japanese captors. They're serving as surrogates in the case, which was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque, N.M., and represent more than 500 U.S. POWs plus their spouses and heirs who figure in the lawsuit.
