After Kathryn E. Savarese graduated from Dartmouth College, where she played varsity golf, she realized how difficult it was for hobbyist golfers to track their handicaps, performance and improvement without the help of a coach.
Ms. Savarese, 28, who was working as director of business development and director of public relations and marketing for a subsidiary of Chicago-based Leo Burnett Co., spent her free time creating Excel spreadsheets to track her game, because she found golf software subpar.
It was then that Ms. Savarese and two friends realized that they could capture a slice of the golf market by hooking golfers online.
